ABOUT

Alex Sowa is a multi-disciplined designer and pop artist.
Having spent over a decade working in publishing, he has since relocated from London into his own studio and shop on the south coast, generating a body of work from small screen printed editions, to much larger paintings on canvas and wooden panels.
Mainly working in acrylic, Alex creates work in response to current affairs, the majority of which he experienced through a negative lens, while working in the news industry for the best part of a decade.
Inspired by this, his work aims to challenge the way we feel about the information around us, and formulate our own opinions by poking fun at modern day popular culture.
Using familiar tropes and characters to engage the viewer with an underlying message, Alex aims to challenge us using humour and satire, often playing on the great British sense of pessimism and sarcasm.
Colour is always at the heart of his work, often with an associated meaning.
This playful way to enhance the narrative without overcompensating, allows Alex to create a story without spoon-feeding the viewer.
"Make up your own minds, I'm not here to tell you what you see".
Alex studied at the Kent Institute of Art and Design, and graduated with a BA in Graphic Design.
He currently runs a screen printing studio and art supply store in Folkestone.
